Junior Achievement of Greater Washington is proud to announce that Dominion Resources, Inc. (Dominion) has agreed to continue its partnership with JA to serve as the Home Utilities Storefront in JA Finance Park® Fairfax County. 

As the Home Utilities Storefront partner, Dominion has helped thousands of Fairfax County students understand what it takes to power a home and how those costs play a role in their ability to be financially successfully in the future. Thanks to their generosity and continued support of JA®, Dominion will continue to play this important role in the JA Finance Park® experience.

Omega World Travel has recently agreed to expand their partnership with Junior Achievement of Greater Washington to serve as the JA Finance Park® Vacation storefront partner in the forthcoming JA Finance Park® Montgomery County, opening in 2018. As the Vacation Storefront partner in Montgomery County, Omega World Travel will show these Montgomery County young people that if they make smart economic choices, they may just be able to afford the vacation of their dreams.

Freedom H.S. students participate in High School Heroes program to give over 300 third graders in VA the JA® experience

On Friday, March 11, Freedom High School students participated in their first ever High School Heroes program by teaching Junior Achievement® programs to elementary school students in Virginia. The High School Heroes program allows regional high school students to prepare and volunteer in the classroom at local elementary schools. It is an opportunity for the high school students to practice their leadership and professional presentation skills, while teaching elementary school students critical life skills and serving as role models for them.

JA Greater Washington Local Partners Honored With U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award At JA Volunteer Summit in NYC

Last week, Junior Achievement® honored two of its dedicated partners, Capital One and Bank of America, with a 2014-2015 U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award. Capital One and Bank of America were two of just 60 organizations nationwide that were chosen for this award. The organizations receiving the awards provided JA® with significant volunteer resources during the 2014-15 school year. The awards were presented at a gala dinner on March 8 in New York City in conjunction with JA®’s quarterly national board of directors meeting.

DTLR agrees to serve as Clothing Storefront Partner at JA Finance Park® Prince George's County

DTLR has officially agreed to join other regional businesses as a partner at JA Finance Park® Prince George’s County in Landover, Maryland.  

DTLR will serve as the Clothing Storefront sponsor at JA Finance Park® Prince George’s County. In this role, DTLR will assist in guiding JA Finance Park® students through the reality of budgeting for their family's clothing needs and inspiring them to find the right balance between needs and wants.

As a sixth grader, it can be easy to feel confused or lost when first exposed to financial concepts such as taxes, interest, budgeting, 401ks, and insurance. After all, these are concepts that many adults struggle to fully wrap the minds around. But imagine being introduced to these topics in a language you are just learning to speak. For one Ridgeview Middle School student, this is exactly the predicament in which he found himself.
