3DE Graduate Spotlight: Jalisa Grier

Overcoming Self-Doubt and Making a Difference: Jalisa’s Journey

Jalisa recalls beginning high school filled with trepidation and self-doubt, often feeling out of place. But across her four years with 3DE, she developed a stronger sense of self, honed her intellectual capabilities, cultivated resilience, refined her academic skills, and deepened her understanding of her passions and aspirations.

One of Jalisa's most notable achievements is starting a community tutoring program. This initiative began during her sophomore year when she noticed a significant lack of academic support for under-resourced students in her area. Motivated to change that equation, Jalisa mobilized a team of dedicated peers and launched a program that provides free tutoring services. What started as a small-scale effort has grown into a well-regarded program, making a substantial impact on many students' lives. The program continues to thrive, with more volunteers joining each year and expanding its reach.

The most meaningful aspect of Jalisa's high school and 3DE experience has been the sense of community and collaboration. Working alongside diverse individuals, facing challenges together, and celebrating collective achievements have been incredibly rewarding. These experiences have underscored the importance of teamwork, mutual support, and the shared pursuit of knowledge and growth.

Several moments from Jalisa's high school journey are sure to remain with her for decades. She will remember the thrill of shared successes, deep, thought-provoking conversations with teachers and peers, and the camaraderie during difficult times. Specific milestones, such as major project completions and significant 3DE events, will also hold a special place in her memory, serving as markers of personal and collective growth.

This fall, Jalisa will attend the University of the Potomac in Washington, D.C., where she will major in International Business. She is also exploring options for obtaining her law degree online and is considering various career paths, including real estate, entrepreneurship, cosmetology, NFL cheerleading, culinary arts, private investigation, and nursing. Jalisa is eager to immerse herself in a rigorous academic environment, engage with leading minds in her field, and explore new intellectual horizons. She looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that college life will bring and is excited to further develop her skills and knowledge in preparation for her future career.

Jalisa’s journey through 3DE has equipped her with the confidence, skills, and determination to pursue her dreams. Let's applaud Jalisa for her remarkable achievements and cheer her on as she embarks on this exciting new chapter!
