On May 5th, we sent students from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This was just one of many JA Job Shadow™ experiences we have coordinated with different organizations in the region. Among the students participating in the Job Shadow was Akilah Johnson, the National Winner of the 2015 Doodle4Google contest. Akilah impressed the contest judges as well as people around the world with her vibrant, artistic talent, and powerful, socially relevant content.

Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, the Greater Washington Board of Trade and Washingtonian magazine announced Wednesday the four laureates named to their 2016 Washington Business Hall of Fame.

This year’s group comprises Diane Hoskins, co-CEO of architecture firm Gensler;Tony Nicely, chairman and CEO of Geico; Kenneth Samet, president and CEO of MedStar Health; and Gary Tabach, managing partner of Greater Washington of Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Washington Business Hall of Fame founders, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, the Greater Washington Board of Trade and Washingtonian today announced the 2016 Hall of Fame laureates. The Washington Business Hall of Fame, founded in 1988, recognizes the professional and philanthropic contributions of outstanding business leaders in our region who have made Greater Washington the city that it is today. The annual gala benefits Junior Achievement® and its innovative financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship K-12 programs that inspire the next generation of leaders to navigate their path to the American Dream.

AICPA and Junior Achievement Launch Online Accounting Career Guide

The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and Junior Achievement USA today announced the launch of a new online Accounting Career Guide for teens. The Guide, which combines Junior Achievement content with resources from AICPA's "Start Here. Go Places," covers the various career paths and opportunities available in the accounting profession, with special emphasis on the work CPAs perform.

Eastern High School students visit Bureau of Engraving and Printing during JA Job Shadow experience

On Thursday, May 5, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington sent 17 students from Eastern High School in Washington D.C. to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) to participate in a JA Job Shadow program. The participating students are either currently enrolled or have previously been enrolled in Ms. Perkin’s Art class at Eastern High School. The aim of the overall experience was to introduce the students to various artistic and creative jobs offered at the BEP.

Junior Achievement of Greater Washington to take part in Do More 24 online fundraiser on June 2

On Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 12:00 am until 11:59 pm, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington will be participating in Do More 24, a 24-hour online fundraiser powered by United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA).

Do More 24 is a fundraiser that brings together hundreds of nonprofit organizations, partners and donors committed to creating impact in our community on one donation platform. United Way NCA created this event as a way for donors to rally around one focused day of giving to create the greatest impact together as a community.

On April 28, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce announced that JA of Greater Washington was selected as a nominee for the Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards in the Non-Profit of the Year Category. 

These awards honor individuals, businesses and non-profits for above-and-beyond business leadership and corporate social responsibility (CSR). An audience of 600+ leaders including the region’s top senior executives, political leaders, business professionals, entrepreneurs and emerging influential will be in attendance at the awards ceremony on June 21 at the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner where finalists and winners in each category will be selected.

JA of Greater Washington announces new Seats for Success initiative to support JA Finance Park®

Today, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington unveiled a new initiative called Seats for Success. Seats for Success is a fundraising program where businesses or individuals can name an auditorium chair at one of our three JA Finance Park® facilities in Fairfax County, Prince George’s County, or Montgomery County (opening in 2018) while supporting the delivery of the JA Finance Park® program in that region.

Voice of America: US Students Take School Field Trip to Real-World Financial Planning

A group of middle schoolers is getting a lesson in real life at Junior Achievement Finance Park near Washington, D.C.

"When the students come here, we make it fun and interactive," said Ed Grenier, JA of Greater Washington's president and CEO.

But the lesson starts in the classroom, he says, with about 14 hours of instruction on financial institutions, debt, credit, budgets, and various types of taxes.
