JA Entrepreneurship Summit Competition Winners Discuss their 'Mini-Business' on WTTG Fox 5 DC

The 2022 JA Entrepreneurship Summit wrapped up another great year! Thirteen student teams successfully pitched their socially conscious ‘mini-businesses’ that focused on addressing one of the following real-world problems - education, social equality, environment, homelessness, and hunger.

Throughout the week, local high school students and students from JA Cyprus, worked with mentors, collaborated with peers, and attended workshops at JA Finance Park in Prince George’s County. On the final day of the summit each team gathered on the campus of University of Maryland College Park at Maryland Smith Business School and presented their business pitch.

The winning team, “Archeo” was invited to join WTTG Fox 5 DC to discuss their business pitch on how they would like to clean up the waterways in the Washington DC area. Thank you to “Archeo” team members, Jaden and Kayla, and Vice President of Education at Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, Chelsea Soneira for giving a great interview!

Thank you to all of the amazing teams for their participation. Great work!

The JA Entrepreneurship Summit is an intensive “startup boot camp” where high school students are challenged to design ready-to-launch, socially-conscious businesses. The experience culminates in a pitch presentation to a panel of esteemed business leaders.

Over the course of five days, students utilize technology to brainstorm and collaborate with peers, access mini-seminars and workshops, and learn from business leaders and trained volunteer mentors. By participating, students develop the technical and soft skills needed to not only become successful entrepreneurs, but also to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy in a variety of professions and careers.
