Washington Business Hall of Fame
Raises $1.2 Million for Financial Literacy

On December 1, Junior Achievement, Washingtonian, and the Greater Washington Board of Trade inducted five outstanding business and community leaders into the Washington Business Hall of Fame: David G. Bradley, Atlantic Media Company; Margery Kraus, APCO Worldwide; Barbara J. Krumsiek, Calvert; Dr. Ralph W. Shrader, Booz Allen Hamilton; and J. Knox Singleton, Inova Health System. Over 1,100 attended and raised $1.2 million for Junior Achievement’s K-12 financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs. Junior Achievement Essay Competition
Winners Announced

We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 Junior Achievement Essay Competition, sponsored by David M. Rubenstein of The Carlyle Group. This fall, high school students from the Greater Washington Region were invited to compete for $110,000 in scholarships by writing an essay on the topic, "How can Greater Washington companies responsibly and effectively deal with the economic challenges facing the United States?" Junior Achievement Finance Park

Local businesses are pledging their support for Junior Achievement Finance Park, the region's first hands-on experiential financial literacy center for youth. Joining signature sponsor Capital One are storefront sponsors Apple Federal Credit Union, Dominion Power, Investment Company Institute Education Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Verizon, and the Washington Nationals. JA Unveils New Online
Student Center for Teens

Junior Achievement just released a new online resource for teens, the JA Student Center. Here, high school students can explore careers, find colleges, learn how to pay for college, get tips on managing money, and discover how to plan a business. Support Financial Education
Through the JA Bowl

You can help inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy this spring by participating in the JA Bowl. It is a fantastic team-building activity, an opportunity to network, and a great way to spend time with your colleagues, friends, and family. Volunteers Needed in Local Schools

Over 150 classrooms across the Region remain unfilled for JA programming this spring. Junior Achievement needs your help to meet this high demand.
