ALAN R. SWENDIMAN

Alan R. Swendiman rejoins Jackson & Campbell, P.C. as an Equity Director and as a member of the Business and Government Law and Trust and Estate Practice Groups. He serves in the role of assisting organizations in general business matters and government contracting.

Alan has extensive government knowledge and experience. He served as General Counsel and Acting Chief of Staff of the General Services Administration where he was engaged in government contracting, leasing and construction. His prior assignment was as Special Assistant to the President and Director, Office of Administration, where he managed the delivery of administrative support and services to the Executive Office of the President. His most recent appointment was as General Counsel of the United States Agency for International Development. Earlier in his career, Alan was nominated by President George H.W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate to be General Counsel of the Federal Labor Relations Authority. In these Federal appointments, he was either the chief legal or administrative officer for the agencies.

Alan has more than 35 years of experience in the private practice of law handling a wide range of business and commercial legal matters including the formation of business entities, contracts, leasing, purchase and sale of real estate, governance, business succession planning, and general corporate counseling. He assisted business owners and individuals on estate planning, wills, trusts, and charitable giving. He also represented various non-profit organizations throughout the Washington metropolitan area. He is a member of the Trust and Estate Law Section of the District of Columbia Bar.

Actively involved in the community, Alan serves, or has served, on the boards of the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, the Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, Leadership Greater Washington, Providence Hospital Foundation, and Goodwill of Greater Washington. He is active in the Greater Washington Board of Trade and currently serves as ex-oficio member of its Board of Directors. Alan is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and was an adjunct professor at George Mason University Law School. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Alan has earned an AV® from Martindale-Hubbell®, the highest recognition achievable for professional ability and ethics.
